Two conjoined twins were separated at Garrahan Hospital: “It was something supernatural, a miracle,” said their mother.

In the midst of the conflict involving its workers, who have been demanding a salary increase for some time, Garrahan Hospital made headlines for another, very different event. A complex operation was successfully performed in one of its operating rooms to separate two three-month-old conjoined twins who were joined at the abdomen and liver.
The surgery, which took place on August 7 and lasted approximately eight hours , was performed by a multidisciplinary team led by Víctor Ayarzábal and comprised of approximately 25 professionals, following intensive preparation.
"They are identical twins and were joined at the abdomen, which is called omphalopagus . In previous studies, it was found that the rest of the organs were well separated and that each liver had its own autonomy ," Ayarzábal explained.
She also explained that "the procedure consisted of cutting the bridge that connected them and separating the babies."
“After the first 48 hours, the girls are expected to make a full recovery that will allow them to lead normal, healthy lives ,” the professional added.
Little sisters Ámbar and Pilar, who currently weigh 5.1 kilograms, remained hospitalized in the neonatal unit, but were healthy. " I want you to help the hospital because you honestly can't even imagine all the supplies they need here. It's a world," the girls' mother pleaded.
Yamila, 27, and Gonzalo, 23, have been together for about three years. They live in Nuevo Alberdi, a neglected neighborhood in northern Rosario where they dreamed of becoming parents on more than one occasion, but never succeeded .
Until one day, the stork answered the call, but in a way that was unexpected: it was a triple call . Everything was exciting for the family.
However, one of the babies didn't survive , and the pregnancy continued with the other two. Later, three months later, they discovered they were conjoined at the abdomen.
"When we found out they were attached to the liver area, we didn't mind their condition . We decided to continue with the pregnancy, and thank God only the liver was attached, which is the only organ that regenerates," Yamila told Rosario 3.

The woman was treated for most of her pregnancy at the Martin maternity hospital in Rosario, but plans changed after 29 weeks, and she had to travel to Buenos Aires to have the girls born at Argerich Hospital in April. And so it was, though the sisters were immediately transferred to Garrahan Hospital.
Despite all the obstacles she had to overcome, Yamila expressed gratitude . "I had a wonderful pregnancy despite the diagnosis, and I want to emphasize God's help in my life because it wasn't easy," she admitted.
" I am the mother of two beautiful warriors, and all the glory belongs to God ," the young woman insisted. She described her daughters' development as " something supernatural, a miracle ."
Finally, he noted: "No matter what conditions we face, we must always hope that God fulfills our heart's desires and performs miracles, just as he did in the lives of Ámbar and Pilar."
A few months ago, another medical milestone took place at Garrahan Hospital , a pediatric referral center in the country, when a baby with spina bifida underwent surgery inside her mother's womb to correct the malformation.
Following that surgery in April, the baby girl was born healthy and delivered by cesarean section in mid-March, at 36 weeks gestation, weighing 2.7 kilos.
